Each member of Trio Engels – Teepe – Herman brings a large cabin trunk of international experience with him: drummer John Engels most of all. Sporting an impressive 65 years in the business, he shared stages with jazz legends such as Louis van Dijk, The Diamond Five, Nina Simone, Stan Getz, Chet Baker and Dizzy Gillespie. As if that’s not enough, The Netherlands’ most swinging drummer has contributed to over 350 records, six of which were awarded an Edison.
The other two members of this pack are equally impressive; bassist Joris Teepe worked with Benny Golson, Don Braden, Bobby Watson and Chris Potter, and the list goes on. Saxophonist Benjamin Herman, finally, is undoubtedly one of the country’s most famous jazz musicians. Leading New Cool Collective he released more than 50 records and developed into a musical omnivore. From straight ahead jazz to hip hop and avant garde and from Dr. John to Paul Weller or Han Bennink to Rein de Graaff; he’s done it all.
It’s no surprise that their 2021 release, When Will The Blues Leave, swings off the charts, so don’t miss them on August 15 at De Observant!
